Pictured: Walter Model, newly promoted to Lieutenant General (April 1940). In November of the same year, he was appointed commander of the 3rd Panzer Division, becoming the first to serve as a field commander rather than a member of the operational staff.

In the photo: Tests with a German 37mm Flak 18 anti-aircraft gun in a special tunnel. The tunnel was built for testing anti-aircraft and aviation weapons, was 400 meters long, and could reduce the air pressure in the firing range to a level equivalent to that at an altitude of 20 kilometers.
