David Lammy was brutally criticised on Good Morning Britain today following a fiery clash over the accidental release of a migrant sex offender. Yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister lashed out during a lively PMQs in Westminster but refused to say whether another asylum seeker has been accidentally released since Kebatu. Standing in for Sir Keir Starmer, Lammy was quizzed on whether any “asylum seeking offenders” had been accidentally released from prison in the last few weeks. Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge asked Lammy multiple times about the blunder, but instead Lammy responded, “Get a grip, man, I know I’m the Justice Secretary, that’s why I’m at the despatch box.”

On GMB, political correspondent Louisa James said the pressure is “piling on David Lammy” and how he handled the question. Meanwhile, host Kate Garraway reported that the Tory party “claim David Lammy was dishonest with Parliament.”

A major manhunt was continuing on Wednesday night after it was revealed Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, a 24-year-old Algerian, was wrongly freed a week ago.

The fiasco comes just days after a sex attack asylum seeker went free and sparked warnings that the fugitive is a “danger to the public”.

The Daily Express understands that the Algerian was set free from HMP Wandsworth in London on October 29, but the mistake was only reported to the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Shortly after 1pm on Tuesday, November 4, the Met was informed by the Prison Service that a prisoner had been released in error from HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday, October 29.

“The prisoner is a 24-year-old Algerian man.

“Officers are carrying out urgent inquiries in an effort to locate him and return him to custody.”
