German soldiers on the march

Picture background

Picture background

German soldiers on the march. No further details are known, although some flowers by the roadside and the general appearance of the landscape suggest that the image may have taken place somewhere on the Western Front in late spring or early summer 1940. Interestingly, the sergeant on the left and the officer on horseback are wearing distinctive light-colored uniform jackets. On the right side of the image, there appear to be two civilians on bicycles. This slide was in acceptable condition but showed the usual cyan-blue color shifts, damage, and stains. I never know what to expect with this type of restoration, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the result. The depiction of the “Agfacolor” border marking is incorrect, which is a consequence of the necessary manipulation. Drum scan of an original Agfacolor slide. Previously unpublished.
