Rachel Reeves is set to unveil her Budget today as Britons brace for major tax hikes. The Chancellor will deliver her financial statement in the House of Commons after Prime Minister’s Questions.
She is expected to announce huge tax rises as she scrambles to fill a black hole in the public finances. Rumoured measures include extending the freeze on tax thresholds after Ms Reeves abandoned an income tax increase, as well as scrapping the two-child benefit cap.
Ms Reeves made a plea to Labour MPs to back her Budget as she spoke to backbenchers on Monday night amid the party’s huge drop in opinion polls less than two years into a term of government.
