In the photo, mountain troops climb into a Junkers 52 before the Battle of Crete (1941). They are armed with the Karabiner 98k.

German soldiers on an Sturmgeschütz III. It was based on the Panzer III chassis and was originally equipped with a light cannon for infantry support. Later, it was modified and, from around 1942, largely used as a tank destroyer with a 75 mm KwK 40 cannon. The Sturmgeschütz III is perhaps best known for its excellent value for money. Approximately 10,500 units were built by the end of the war.
