Ben Leo rips GB News guest for ‘flimsy’ Rupert Lowe argument
A frosty exchange took place on GB News today (August 22) as host Ben Leo clashed with political commentator Andy Williams. Ben tore into Williams and demanded that the guest explain his “unfounded” accusation. The topic centred around Lucy Connolly, who has been released from jail after serving part of a 31-month sentence for a race hate message on social media. She pleaded guilty in September after posting the expletive-ridden post on X the day three girls were stabbed to death in July 2024. The argument on GB News boiled over after Williams launched into a rant, arguing: “Rupert Lowe, who I think is beneath contempt.”
Ben Leo then cut him off, telling Andy to “grow up” before demanding he justify such harsh criticism. Andy shot back: “I hear people on this channel all the time saying Keir Starmer is the most evil, oppressive man. Well, I feel the same about Rupert Lowe.”

“I think he’s an awful man. He’s saying, ‘We’re going to bring Lucy Connolly into Parliament as the special guest at our debate.’ She’s a convicted criminal. The right are supposed to be the standard-bearers of the rule of law in this country.”
Ben then quizzed him: “Can you just clarify, with Rupert Lowe, why you find him beneath contempt? Can you give an example? I’m very intrigued.”
Williams shot back: “I think mass deportations is a disgusting policy.” Ben then said: “He’s talking about illegal immigrants?” Williams argued: “He’s not actually clarified what he means by that.”
Ben responded: “He just means illegal migrants, people who entered illegally. Don’t you think people should be deported when they break into the country illegally?”

Andy replied, stuttering: “Well, I think it’s more complicated than that.” Ben added: “You think a Member of Parliament who says, and by the way, this is policy in countries all over the world, like the United States and Australia, ‘If you break into the country illegally, you are an illegal migrant, you will be deported?’
“You think an MP who says that is beneath contempt? When is it policy for the rest of the world?” Andy hit back: “Just because it’s policy doesn’t make it right. There are lots of policies elsewhere in the world that I think are disgusting.”
Ben fired back: “All the leading democracies of the West have that same policy. The United States of America is a leading democracy of the West, but they have all sorts of policies that are disgraceful.”
Ben went on: “Any other examples of Rupert Lowe being beneath contempt? Any others?” as Williams concluded: “I don’t need to justify that.”
