Nigel Farage has said US President Donald Trump deserves to be given the Nobel Peace Prize for his work ending the recent Iran-Israel conflict. Only four American leaders have ever been given the gong; Theodore Roosevelt for ending the Russia-Japanese war of 1906, Woodrow Wilson for his part establishing the League of Nations after World War I, Jimmy Carter for his cumulative involvement in peace negotiations, and Barack Obama in 2009 for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”

Now, the Reform UK leader, Mr Farage, has called for Trump to join the pantheon of US presidents for his work in the Middle East. Mr Farage, who is riding a wave of surging popularity in the polls, also said Britain should adopt a similar system to the Trump administration when it comes to running the country.

He told The Times: “I mean, we currently appoint cabinet ministers with zero experience of the areas. We swap them out after 18 months for somebody else with zero experience of the areas. None of it bloody works.”

Mr Farage, who has a good relationship with Trump, said if his party were to sweep to power come the next General Election, he would want to make big changes to the way Britain is run.

“The point about America is that you can have a senior cabinet position and you are held to account by a committee system that takes place on Capitol Hill and that is the equivalent of being in a court of law”.

“That’s accountability. Standing up in the House of Commons and telling a pack of lies, frankly, is not accountability.”

Donald Trump as already been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in the Middle East. On Tuesday Republican Senator Buddy Carter wrote to the Norwegian Nobel Committee stating Trump should win the award “in recognition of his extraordinary and historic role in brokering an end to the armed conflict between Israel and Iran and preventing the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet.”

Pakistan has also formally nominated the US president for the prestigious honour for his “pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis”.

The official nomination read: “The Government of Pakistan has decided to formally recommend President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.

“At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond.

“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.”
