An analyst suggests that Melania Trump likely influenced Donald Trump’s shifted stance on the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

“There are forces within the Trump camp that do support Ukraine. One of them is Melania Trump. Melania Trump really believes. She’s very affected by the issue of Ukrainian children. Russia has kidnapped more than 20,000 Ukrainian children”, Melinda Haring, Eurasia specialist at the Atlantic Council and senior community engagement advisor at Rasm for Ukraine, told France 24.

Haring noted that Melania discusses Ukrainian children with her husband and that the former first lady’s closest friends are all Ukrainian Americans. The news comes as Russian commander issues horror order as Putin troops seize child hostages.

“It’s really about who talked to Trump last that President Trump is really influenced by the last person in the room.”

Following his meeting with Zelensky on Tuesday, Trump declared that he believes Ukraine can triumph in the war and reclaim all lost territory, reports the Express US.

The comments mark a departure from his previous position that Zelensky “doesn’t have the cards”, contending that time is not on Ukraine’s side and that Russia is prevailing in the war.

He had also pressed Zelensky to make territorial concessions to Russia to secure a deal that would end the four year old conflict. Donald Trump, the former President, expressed his views on the Ukraine/Russia military and economic situation via his Truth Social account.

He stated: “After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” following his meeting with Zelensky.

Haring, an expert, noted that while there’s a significant shift in rhetoric, it could change tomorrow. She posed the question: “Will the United States continue to support Ukraine with its financial assistance and with weapons? That’s the big question”.

Ukrainian President Zelensky, during an interview on Fox News’ Special Report, said: “Today, we had a good conversation with President Trump and I think he understands today that we can’t just swap territories”. He added, “It is not fair”.

When asked if Trump’s stance had altered, Zelensky responded: “Yes, I think so and I really count on this, a continuation of his attitude”.

Zelensky emphasised that to halt the war, Putin’s ambitions must be curbed. He stated: “To change his position on this war.”
